Specialized P3

Hardtail

Specialized, 779-6229

Maxi test: October 2005

Highlights: The P3, the Specializeds flagship jumper can compete with any custom-built bike, and in some cases may even surpass them. The P8 cms aluminum frame features a top tube with a butted and manipulable downtube, a forge and relieved head tube and a forged bottom bracket shell. It has integrated ISCG tabs and horizontal dropouts. An integrated derailleur hanger, disc brake mounts and an offset rear triangle measuring 6 millimeters. To accommodate rider preference and not the riders’ size, frames are available in both short and long sizes. The Truvativ ISIS gigaPipe DHTLT is the bottom bracket, which is one of the most frequently used components of any jumpbike.

Best quote: Whether you were working a group of small jumps, or Xgames-worthy booters the P3 flew stable. It landed smoothly.

Bottom line: The 2005 Specialized P3 is a great bike for dirt jumping. You can ride it all, including mountaincross and jumping. It even has the ability to be a trail bike. The P3 is the bike for you if jumping is your passion but you don’t want to be restricted by a bike that can only do one thing.
